Easter Island or Rapa Nui is located at the eastern end of the Polynesian triangle, in the Pacific Ocean, 3,700 km off the Chilean coast and 4,000 km of Tahiti, in French Polynesia. The island has a total surface of 16,000 hectares and features subtropical oceanic climate, which involves temperatures ranging from 16 °C and 28 °C.

Rapa Nui was formed as a result of submarine volcanic eruptions that took place 3 million years ago.
